Kraft Nabisco Day 2: Feng, Wie lead the pack

The first day of the Kraft Nabisco championship certainly put plenty of stars on the leaderboard, but the most intriguing story had to be Michelle Wie. Today’s second-round will see most people watching to see if the 24-year-old Wie can continue her strong play for the season and stay near the top of the leaderboard.

Wie has had a very good start to the 2014 season, with a 16th-place finish in San Diego last year her worst outing of the year. But it has been more than three years since her last victory on the LPGA. The question is can she put four rounds together and translate that good play into a victory this week. It would be fitting if she did breakthrough for a win at the craft, since the LPGA’s first major of the year is where she made such a big impact when she was a teenager, especially in 2003 when she was just 13.
Wie is among the early flight of players today, meaning the course might play a bit easier with cooler temperatures and no wind. Overnight leader ShanShan Feng plays in the afternoon flight, and there is some chance the winds will kick up late in the day.
But the first round also gave us other stars on the leaderboard, such as Cristie Kerr, Jiyai Shin, Morgan Pressel, and others. Those players will certainly make the cut for the weekend, and should contend at some point over the weekend for the title.

Temperatures for the second round are expected to reach the mid 70s by the afternoon, hopefully predicted winds for tonight will stay away at least that long, and will disappear before Saturday’s third round.
